The short version
This is a free study planner. Use it for schoolwork, keep your account to yourself, and check what it produces before you rely on it — it reads documents with AI, and AI misreads things. Your work stays yours. If it stops being useful, delete your account and everything goes with it.
Who this agreement is with
Bear’s Study Buddy™ is operated by Study by Bear™ (“we”). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to what is on this page. If you don’t, don’t create one.
You need to be old enough to agree to this yourself. The app is built for university students and is not directed at children under 13.
What you get
An account, free of charge, with access to everything the app currently does. There is no paid tier today. If one is ever introduced, what you already have will not be taken away without telling you first.
AI features run on a shared allowance with a daily limit per person and a monthly ceiling across everyone. Reaching a limit pauses AI generation and nothing else — your calendar, flashcards and grade calculator keep working. You can supply your own Anthropic API key to lift both limits, in which case that usage is billed to your account by Anthropic, not by us.
What stays yours
Everything you put in. Your syllabi, notes, assignments, grades and schedules are your property, and so is the study material generated from them. We claim no ownership of any of it and do not use it to train anything.
You give us permission to store and process your content only so far as running the app requires — reading a document to build your calendar, generating a study guide you asked for. Nothing more, and it ends when you delete your account.
The app itself, its name, its design and its artwork remain ours.
AI gets things wrong
The clause that matters most
This app reads syllabi and notes with AI, and AI misreads things. A due date can come out wrong, a point value can be missed, a study guide can state something your notes do not. Check what it produces before you rely on it.
This is why nothing reaches your calendar until you have reviewed it, and why rows the model was unsure about are flagged. That review step is not a formality — it is the point. Skipping it is your call and your risk.
You remain responsible for your own deadlines, your own coursework and your own academic honesty. Generated study material is for revision. Handing it in as your own work is between you and your institution, and most institutions take a dim view.
Not advice
The wellbeing features suggest when to eat, when to move and when to rest. They are general suggestions built from times you entered, and they are not medical, nutritional, psychological or mental-health advice. The app deliberately does not give calorie targets or prescribe a diet. If you want that, speak to a professional who can actually see you.
Nothing here is financial or academic advice either. The grade calculator does arithmetic on numbers you type; it does not know your institution’s rules.
The med school section is not admissions advice. Prerequisite lists, GPA estimates and application dates are the typical case and are labelled as such; every school sets its own requirements and the AAMC sets the real dates each cycle. MCAT practice written by the app is practice in the exam’s form, not the exam, and no score here predicts a real one.
Your account
- Keep it to yourselfYour sign-in is yours. Don't share it, and tell us if you think someone else has it.
- One person per accountAccounts are individual. Your work is invisible to everyone else, which only holds if accounts aren't shared.
- Accurate detailsUse an email address you actually control — it is how you get back in if you forget your password.
- You can leave wheneverSettings has a delete button. It removes your records and your uploaded files immediately and permanently.
What you agree not to do
- Break inNo attempting to reach other people's accounts, probing for weaknesses, or working around limits.
- Overload itNo scripted or automated use, no scraping, no hammering the AI features to exhaust the shared allowance.
- Upload what isn't yours to uploadOnly put in documents you have the right to. A syllabus you were given, yes; a textbook you weren't, no.
- Misuse the formsThe suggestion box and problem reports are for suggestions and problems.
- Anything illegalThe obvious one.
We may suspend or close an account that does these things. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will say why first.
It might break, and it might stop
This is a small, free app run by one person. It is provided as it is, with no guarantee that it will be available, correct, or free of faults. We do not promise particular uptime, and we do not promise your data is backed up in a way that could recover it if something goes badly wrong. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
It may change, features may be removed, and it may be discontinued. If it is being shut down for good we will give reasonable notice and a way to get your work out.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — a missed deadline, a grade, an opportunity — arising from using the app. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
Other services
The app uses Anthropic to read documents and generate study material, and optionally Google to sign you in and an email provider to send password resets. The wellbeing features link out to House of Figs™ and Figatry™. Those are separate services with their own terms, and what they do is between you and them. The privacy page sets out exactly what is sent where, and when.
Changes to these terms
If they change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with them and we will make the change visible in the app rather than quietly. Continuing to use it after that means you accept the new version. If you don’t, delete your account — everything goes with it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or from your use of the app will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Arizona, and you agree to their jurisdiction. If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
Getting in touch
The suggestion box and the report page both work without an account and both reach the person who runs this.
